Colonel Francisco CALVO (Invited)
Colonel Francisco Calvo joined the Spain Army Officers Academy in 1990 and got his commission in 1994 as an Infantry Lieutenant.
He has served in combat units as platoon leader, company commander, and battalion commander in the Spain Airborne Brigade, and 10th and 11th Mechanized Brigades for more than thirteen years, acquiring different aptitudes like commander of airborne units, free fall parachuting, pathfinder, or peace operations observer.
He graduated in the Spain Armed Forces Staff College in 1998 and the US Army War College in 2023, obtaining a master degree in strategic studies. As a staff officer, he served in the Spain Army General Staff, the Spain Joint Staff, the “Castillejos” Division Headquarters, and the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Headquarters in Italy. In these positions, he specialized in the generation of forces for operations, lessons learned, and planning of operations at the tactical, operational and strategic levels.
He has deployed in operations several times. In Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2001, as the Spain Task Force AG-3 Plans. In Afghanistan in 2006 as the Spain Provincial Reconstruction Team G-9 Chief. In Afghanistan again in 2012 as a planner in the ISAF Joint Command Future Operations Branch. In addition, in Iraq in 2018 as a Brigade Training Team commander.
Currently he commands the “Nápoles” No4 Airborne Regiment in Spain, and 15 July 2024 he was appointed as the commander of the Multinational Brigade Task Force Slovakia.
He is married to Carlota and has two sons, Alejandro and Santiago.
